• Lots of Sunny Miles

In my last post I said I would try to post once a week about the running I’ve been doing. I’m just going to dive in with the facts and figures:

Day Distance (miles) Pace (mins/mile) Notes
    Mon 4.0 8:23
    Tue Rest
    Wed Rest (Badminton)
Thu Intervals 6:09 with Andover AC
    Fri 2.4 9:04
    Sat 3.1 6:52 Salisbury Parkrun
    Sun 14.5 9:08

    Total: 28.2 miles, 4 hours 1 minute

The first part of the week was taken fairly easy, because I knew there were lots of miles to come later on in the week. The intervals session on Thursday was pretty good – I did three 1k repetitions (I was contemplating doing a fourth, but it seemed like a bad...

  • Blogging About Running

Being a big sports fan from an early age, I have always enjoyed athletics. I’ve always had an interest in the day-to-day training of elite athletes, especially runners, and that interest has grown even larger since taking up running regularly a couple of years ago. Being able to compare and relate one’s training to that of the best runners in the world is one of the most awesome things about the internet.

After watching the London Marathon last Sunday, I found myself looking up the various elite athletics near the front of the field. I was reading a couple of blogs (including Steve Way’s and Aly Dixon’s), and the thought struck me that, given that running is one of my main hobbies and I have been looking for something to write about for while, why not give “running blogging” a go myself? Obviously my experiences are a lot...

  • Vienna

I went to Vienna this weekend.

Myself and a group of like-minded friends have been away to Central Europe every spring/summer for the last few years. The general theme of the holidays is that some or all of us just have finished exams, and we want to relax, unwind and get a bit pissed. This time some of us were working instead of exam-ing, but the hardy amongst us had just finished their Masters degrees after four years of slogging, so it seemed like a good time to go away.

Here’s some photos of the apartment. We went with airbnb, and the experience was excellent. Notwithstanding the quality of the flat and the stunning view, the process of booking was simple, and apart from a few concerns after a couple of missed calls, the check-in and check-out process was a breeze. It wasn’t perfectly central, but very close to...

  • Commute Analysis - Part 1: Data Collection

    I really like statistics.

I especially like collecting data about myself. Whether it be running, drinking, diet, sleeping or drinking again, I like to know details about my progress, and goals I have, and how I might be best suited to going about achieving those goals. I crave knowledge about myself and I enjoy comparing myself to others to motivate myself to improve (especially important when drinking – one can never try enough different types of booze).

Those of you who care about my life may already know that I recently moved away from Bath, where I work, to live with my girlfriend. I now live in a medium sized town called Amesbury, in Wiltshire. Amesbury is a lovely place, and I couldn’t be happier with how the move has gone, but there is one obvious downside – I’ve traded my two minute walk to...
